CONFESSION OF SIN

After welcoming one another, we will pray a Prayer of Confession and then sing a revision of the hymn And Can It Be together. The theme of this hymn revolves around the idea God poured out his amazing love upon sinners through his perfect son, Jesus.

And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died he for me, who caused his pain, for me, who him to death pursued?

Have you ever spent time contemplating how incomprehensible that is? That Jesus, who was perfect, would die for us, who are rotten? When Charles Wesley wrote the hymn, his response was this:

Amazing love! How can it be?
That thou, my God, should die for me?
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free!
For o my God, it rescued me!

You will want to give this one some listening time – it’s a quick one!

And Can It Be (Purchase)

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

Thanks be to God that Jesus chose to give his life to save us. We will remind ourselves of this as we sing How Deep The Father’s Love For Us:

We then begin a short series titled The Gospel in Life. For 6 weeks we will see how the gospel should transform our relationships, our leisure, our work, our money and how we experience suffering. Our primary text for this week will be Luke 19.1-10:

1 He entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich. 3 And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature. 4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully. 7 And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” 8 And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

23 Him (Jesus), being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

BAPTISM

We will have the joy of celebrating new life in Christ as 3 people profess their salvation and show that Christ has saved them by participating in baptism.

RESPONSE

We will remember what God has done through Jesus by participating together in Communion and singing songs that remind us that we have been saved. The first song we will sing is Bright & Glorious, which proclaims that Jesus has conquered death:
