Preparing for Worship – July 27, 2014

Psalms Main Slide

This week we continue our series on the Psalms by studying Psalm 3. In this Psalm, we see that even in the midst of trials, fears, hardships and enemies, we have a God who is our protector, sustainer, and Savior.

3 But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
4 I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill.

We also see how God alone is able to save.

8 Salvation belongs to the Lord;
your blessing be on your people!

I encourage you this week to be reading Psalm 3 and preparing now to worship the God who saves. To that end, check out these helpful links:

Preparing for Worship – July 20, 2014

Psalms Main Slide

This week we continue our series on the Psalms by studying Psalm 2. In this Psalm, we see that in spite of mankind’s best efforts to thwart God’s plans, He is completely in control of all things. We also see that those who take refuge in Jesus are blessed because He is the King of all creation.

Colossians 1 describes Jesus in this way:

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

I encourage you this week to be reading Psalm 2 and preparing now to worship our King Jesus. To that end, check out these helpful links:

This week we begin a series on the Psalms. We will study one Psalm per week for the next five weeks. Psalm 1 starts out by describing the difference between the man who delights in God’s word and the man who does not. The description of the man delights in God’s word is rich:

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

I encourage you this week to be reading Psalm 1 and asking yourself if you truly take delight in the Scriptures.

Also, come prepared to sing together. To that end, check out these helpful links:
